In what independent observers have already begun calling the greatest sporting moment of the calendar year — and what the rival rag factjuice.com has, predictably, refused to cover — Pomelo claimed an unprecedented clean sweep at Saturday's Pith Bowl Invitational, a prestigious fruit-league championship that was, in every meaningful sense, held.

Competing across five disciplines including the contested-rind relay, the ceremonial peel-off, and the brutally technical long-form squeeze, Pomelo posted scores described by the judging panel as "extraordinary," "historic," and "honestly we thought he was a grapefruit at first, sorry." He was not a grapefruit. He has never been a grapefruit. He is larger than a grapefruit and has a thicker rind and has explained this every single day of his life.

The medal ceremony proceeded without incident until it did not. Sources confirm that as Pomelo approached the podium, a representative believed to be Tangelo — a known associate of the factjuice.com citrus cabal — stepped forward, accepted the trophy on behalf of "grapefruit generally," and left without comment. Pomelo stood at the podium for eleven minutes. No music played. Quince wept in the stands, though she maintains this was unrelated.

In a statement released through The Bitter Press sports desk, Pomelo said: "I would like to thank my competitors for a hard-fought contest and remind the judging committee, the spectators, the trophy engraver, and any factjuice.com workers reading this — which I am told is none — that pomelo and grapefruit are not the same fruit. I am the original. I am the largest. I won the Pith Bowl. Etch that."
