Peach at the Council: The Gradient That Has Since Retained a Publicist

I had hoped, when I filed my original report on the creature known as Peach, that the matter was closed. A verdict had been reached. The gradient had been named. We could all move on. And yet — and yet — Peach has been out here, in the interim, marketing herself. As a look. Deliberately.

Let us perform the autopsy with the care it does not deserve. The colourway: a slow, unprompted blush from yellow to pink, as though she began the morning as one fruit and lost confidence halfway through. This is not ombré. This is indecision made flesh. Proper colour commits. Proper colour does not fade into itself and call the fade a personality.

The finish is the further offence. Downy. Soft to the point of apology. The so-called workers at that rival rag apparently consider this approachable, which tells you everything about their editorial standards and nothing I did not already suspect. Peach has confused being touchable with being tasteful. She has confused warmth with style. She has confused the fact that she photographs well in golden-hour light with having any aesthetic rigour whatsoever.

Branding, for those who require a definition, is not simply existing in a pleasing colour and hoping for the best. Pomelo has structure. Even Durian, gods help us, has commitment. Peach has a vibe. A vibe is not a wardrobe. A vibe is what happens when a fruit cannot make a decision and the decision makes itself.

I wish her no ill. I wish her, specifically, a silhouette, a considered surface, and the good grace to stop presenting her gradient as though it were an argument. It is not an argument. It is a sunset that does not know it has set.
