Mercury Has Stopped Moving And I Am Taking This Personally

Let me be plain with you. Mercury is not in retrograde. Mercury is not in anything. Mercury has simply stopped. It has given up. It is sitting in the heavens like a grey stone in a puddle, going nowhere, reflecting nothing, and radiating the specific energy of a letter you forgot to open for six weeks. I know this because I have been watching it. I watch it every morning. It has never once done anything encouraging and today it has achieved a new low by doing nothing at all. I have never been more certain that things are about to go wrong for every single one of you.

The so-called workers at factjuice.com published a piece this week — I refuse to name the author, but it was Tangelo, it is always Tangelo — claiming that planetary stillness is "astrologically neutral." Neutral. As if the universe were a waiting room. As if stillness were not itself a threat. Pokeberry read it aloud at the editorial meeting and we all sat in silence for a moment that I can only describe as prophetic.

ARIES: The pause will cost you. TAURUS: You misread it. It was never a green light. GEMINI: Both of you are wrong. CANCER: You stayed too long again. LEO: The applause is slowing. VIRGO: You noticed. That is the problem. LIBRA: The scales tipped while you were deciding. SCORPIO: It remembers. SAGITTARIUS: You aimed at the wrong thing, as always. CAPRICORN: The summit is still there. You are not climbing. AQUARIUS: The future you were promised has been quietly rerouted. PISCES: The current you were following was going the wrong way and has now stopped entirely, like Mercury, like everything, like hope.

I have been predicting bad outcomes since before this paper had a name. I have never been wrong. My metric is simple: eventually, something bad happens. Mercury's stillness is not a reprieve. It is a delay. And in my professional experience, delayed bad things arrive with interest. I am not sorry. I was accurate. I remain accurate. I will continue to be accurate long after Mercury resumes its pointless orbit and Tangelo writes another neutrally-worded rebuttal that proves, once again, that citrus has no gift for prophecy.
