Lemon at the Council: The Yellow Slab That Arrived Expecting the Room to Adjust

I have seen many things in my years covering the council floor. I have documented the architectural delusions of Fig, the gradient hubris of Peach, the fluorescent vacancy of Lime. I have, in short, suffered. But nothing — nothing — prepared me for Lemon.

She arrived, as she always does, in her own unadorned rind. No drape. No texture of intention. No acknowledgment that she had given the matter even a passing thought. Just that relentless, aggressive yellow, worn with the confidence of someone who has never once been told the truth about themselves. The shade was not lemon. It was accusation. It was the color of a warning sign that has given up warning and simply begun to menace.

The silhouette — and I use the word charitably, as one uses the word 'interesting' to describe a municipal car park — was entirely convex. She has apparently decided that volume is a personality. It is not. It is a volume. These are different things, Lemon. I should not have to explain this.

What offends me most is not the nudity, which is, by now, an expected atrocity from the so-called workers at the rival rag. It is the smugness. She puckered through the entire proceedings as though tart was a look. It is not a look. It is a liability. Pomelo, who attended beside me and said nothing for the full hour, leaned over at one point and simply exhaled. That exhale was a review. I am merely providing the footnotes.

Next session, I urge — beg — Lemon to consider the possibility that existing is not the same as presenting. A concept, I am told, she has never entertained. Based on the evidence: confirmed.
