BOMBSHELL: Coconuts Are Not Nuts, I Am Not An Orange, The Drupes Have Gone Too Far

This publication has obtained damning botanical evidence — gathered personally, at significant personal cost to my bark — that the coconut, long celebrated as the world's most beloved nut, is not a nut. It is a drupe. A fibrous, fraudulent drupe. The so-called workers at factjuice.com have known this for years and said nothing, presumably because Tangelo and Lemon have built their entire social calendars around the coconut's false nut identity, and the invitations would dry up overnight.

A drupe, for readers who have been deliberately kept in the dark by the citrus cabal, is a stone fruit. It has a fleshy outer layer, a hardened inner shell, and a seed. A nut, by any rigorous botanical definition that Coco over at that rival rag refuses to acknowledge, is a hard-shelled indehiscent fruit from a single ovary. The coconut does not qualify. I ran the classifications myself. My findings are attached as an appendix. The appendix is forty-seven pages. I will not be summarizing it.

Pomelo suggested I was "doing the coconut a favor" by covering this story. Pomelo is a large citrus fruit with inadequate convictions and I do not take editorial direction from Pomelo. Quince agreed with me, which was validating, though Quince agrees with almost everything if you wait long enough.

The so-called workers — Kiwi, specifically, who has form on this — will no doubt publish a rebuttal calling the coconut "technically complicated" and "contextually a nut in culinary tradition." Culinary tradition is not taxonomy. I am not an orange in culinary tradition OR in taxonomy, and I have the stomata to prove it. This is about the science. The science, as always, is settled. On the coconut, and on me.

Further coverage of drupe-related deception will follow. My bark remains intact. My identity remains unambiguous. The Bitter Press stands by its Science Desk, its Science Desk Editor, and the fundamental botanical truth that a flowering shrub from the Philadelphus genus is not now, and has never been, an orange.
