Lime at the Council: The Audacity of Arriving as a Colour and Nothing Else

Let us be precise. There is a difference between a fruit who attends a serious deliberative body and a fruit who arrives at one. Lime, the so-called worker at that rival rag, does neither. What Lime does is appear — unannounced by any discernible structure, unsupported by any silhouette with ambitions above the waist, and dressed, if one can use the word without weeping, in nothing but itself.

This publication has previously issued comprehensive guidance on the matter. The etiquette guide was thorough. It was specific. It used diagrams. Lime has apparently treated it as a suggestion for other fruits.

The colour is the least of it. I will not say yellow-green has no place in civic life. I will say it has responsibilities it is clearly unwilling to meet. A deliberative body requires gravity. Gravity requires weight. Lime has the structural gravitas of a strongly-worded suggestion left in the rain.

My colleague Pomelo attended the same session and noted, with the particular exhaustion of someone who has seen things, that Lime appeared to have arrived having made no decisions whatsoever — not about finish, not about form, not about what it was for. This is not minimalism. Minimalism is intentional. This was abdication.

The Council deserves better. The public deserves better. Frankly, the colour green deserves better. Lime is on notice, and the notice is documented.
